Rajasthan’s authorities have launched a fierce offensive against illegal mining operations, resulting in the arrest of 90 offenders within just 15 days. This aggressive crackdown underscores the state’s determination to curb the rampant exploitation of natural resources that has plagued the region for years.

The mining department, in coordination with local police, has intensified raids across key districts known for unauthorized digging activities. High-value sites rich in marble, limestone, and sandstone have been prime targets. Officials report seizing heavy machinery, including excavators and tippers, worth crores of rupees, alongside stockpiles of illegally extracted minerals.

“We are sending a strong message to all illegal miners,” declared a senior mining official. “No one will be spared, regardless of their influence or connections.” The operation has uncovered a web of local syndicates operating under the cover of night, often with alleged political patronage.

Environmentalists applaud the move, highlighting the devastating impact of illegal mining on Rajasthan’s fragile ecosystem. Deforestation, soil erosion, and water contamination have turned lush areas into barren wastelands. Local communities, too, stand to benefit as restored sites could boost legitimate tourism and employment.

This blitz follows a directive from the state government to prioritize enforcement amid rising public complaints and court interventions. Over the past fortnight, fines exceeding Rs 50 crore have been imposed, with more actions promised. As the campaign gathers momentum, authorities vow to dismantle entire networks, from petty operators to major ringleaders.
