In a significant show of solidarity for the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) campaign in Kerala, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday amid the ongoing assembly elections. Sharma's visit underscores the party's ambitious push to expand its footprint in the southern state.
The Chief Minister participated in the nomination filing ceremonies of four key BJP candidates: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Kerala BJP president and Nemom assembly contender; V. Muraleedharan from Kazhakkoottam; P.K. Krishnadas from Kattakada; and R. Srilekha from Vattiyoorkavu. Addressing a large gathering, Sharma urged Kerala's voters to back these candidates to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a 'Developed India-Developed Kerala'.
'Under PM Modi's leadership, Kerala stands at the cusp of transformative change,' Sharma declared. He expressed confidence that these nominees, representing the people's aspirations, would lay the foundation for good governance and rapid development. The CM highlighted the electorate's firm resolve for change this election cycle.
Sharma's itinerary included a visit to the BJP state headquarters, where he paid floral tributes to statues of Deendayal Upadhyaya, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, and P. Parameswaran. Earlier, he offered prayers at the revered Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, seeking blessings for public welfare and prosperity.
BJP workers accorded a rousing welcome to the visiting dignitary upon his arrival. With the Election Commission having issued notifications for Kerala's assembly polls, nominations are open until March 23, scrutiny on March 24, withdrawal deadline on March 26, and voting scheduled for April 9.
Sharma's presence signals BJP's strategic efforts to bolster its organizational strength in Kerala, where the party aims to make substantial gains in the upcoming polls. This cross-state support highlights the national leadership's commitment to southern expansion.
