CHANDIGARH: In a blistering counterattack, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has accused Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu of shamelessly dragging Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi into a six-year-old incident to please his political masters. The verbal showdown erupted after Bittu threatened to file a formal complaint against Priyanka Gandhi over events during the 2020-21 farmers’ protests.
Bittu, the Minister of State for Railways, claimed that Priyanka Gandhi had sent him to meet protesting farmers, where he was allegedly attacked. He vowed to seek an investigation into the circumstances that led to his dispatch amid the heated agitation against the now-repealed farm laws. Raja Warring dismissed these allegations as ‘childish’ and utterly baseless on social media platform X.
‘This is strange but not surprising that Bittu is trying to shamelessly drag Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi into an incident that happened with him six years ago,’ Warring posted. He expressed pity for Bittu, saying, ‘One feels sorry and pity for Bittu that to keep his masters happy, what all he has to do.’
The latest spat traces back to a fiery exchange in Parliament on February 4, where Bittu and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi traded barbs. As Bittu passed protesting Congress MPs, Rahul was overheard saying, ‘Look, a traitor is passing by. Look at his face.’ Bittu hit back, labeling Rahul and his allies as ‘enemies of the country’ and vowing no association with those he views as threats to the nation.
This ongoing feud highlights deepening rifts between the Congress and BJP in Punjab, with personal attacks overshadowing policy debates. As elections loom, such exchanges are likely to intensify, drawing sharp lines in the state’s polarized political landscape. Punjab’s voters will ultimately decide if these accusations hold water or are mere political theater.
