In a fiery address in West Midnapore on March 8, BJP leader Rahul Sinha launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress government. Speaking amid rising political tensions, Sinha claimed that the people of Bengal are demanding President’s Rule in the state due to the deteriorating law and order situation.

“The public wants President’s Rule, but delays by certain elements through SIR-SIR tactics are holding it back,” Sinha remarked, predicting that it would automatically come into effect once the current government’s term ends. He emphasized that elections under President’s Rule align perfectly with the electorate’s wishes, and the TMC would inadvertently fulfill this demand.

The controversy erupted over the last-minute change in venue for the 9th International Santhal Conference, which led to accusations of protocol violations against President Droupadi Murmu. Sinha condemned Mamata Banerjee’s handling of the situation as a blatant insult to the Constitution and Bengal’s traditions. “The President hails from the tribal community, yet she was treated this way. Mamata’s subsequent statements clearly demean the Adivasi society,” he asserted.

Directing his appeal to Bengal’s tribal communities, Sinha urged them to rise against this perceived disrespect. “I request the Adivasi society to awaken to this insult and uproot this government,” he declared passionately.

The issue gained national attention after Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the TMC on social media. Shah accused the state government of crossing new heights of anarchy by insulting the President, while Modi called it shameful and unprecedented, expressing solidarity with the tribal community’s sentiments expressed through the President.

As political rhetoric intensifies ahead of future elections, Sinha’s call represents a strategic outreach to consolidate tribal votes against the ruling TMC, highlighting deep divisions over governance, constitutional propriety, and community respect in West Bengal.
