Following the conclusion of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a significant disciplinary step by suspending its senior leader and former Union Minister R.K. Singh for six years. The party cited ‘severe anti-party activities’ as the grounds for this action, announced on Saturday.
Singh, a former bureaucrat who served as Union Home Secretary and held the Power Ministry, had frequently voiced his disapproval of the NDA leadership and the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar. His public statements included allegations of corruption against prominent NDA figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, calling for their resignation or public clarification. He also controversially advised voters in Bihar to reject candidates with criminal backgrounds, naming individuals associated with NDA allies. Furthermore, Singh publicly criticized the Election Commission’s effectiveness in managing election-related violence, particularly citing the violence in Mokama as a failure of both administrative and electoral oversight.
This suspension is part of a larger effort by the Bihar BJP to enforce discipline and unity within its ranks after the elections. The party also suspended Bihar BJP MLC Ashok Kumar Agarwal and Katihar Mayor Usha Agarwal, citing ‘anti-party activities.’ A primary reason for the Agarwals’ suspension is reportedly Ashok Agarwal’s decision to permit his son, Saurav Agarwal, to run as a VIP candidate from Katihar, defying party mandates. They have been issued a one-week deadline to submit their response.
The focus on law and order has intensified, with Singh’s strong criticisms drawing attention to governance failures. The murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav in Mokama during the election campaign became a focal point, leading to the suspension of two police officers and drawing comparisons to ‘jungle raj’ by critics.
