CHANDIGARH – On the eve of Republic Day, Punjab Police launched extensive flag marches across the state to reinforce security measures. Acting on directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, forces targeted sensitive areas to ensure peaceful celebrations on January 26.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav issued strict orders to Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police, and Station House Officers. They were instructed to remain in the field until all events concluded, guaranteeing airtight arrangements.

Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla revealed that teams under CP and SSP leadership conducted marches in vulnerable districts. The initiative aimed to instill public confidence and prepare officers for any contingencies.

“Security has been ramped up statewide,” Shukla stated. “Over 20,000 personnel are deployed for seamless Republic Day events.”

Operations extended to crowded spots like railway stations, bus stands, markets, malls, and parks. SP-ranked officers oversaw cordon-and-search operations (CASO), with emphasis on courteous interactions during checks.

Parallel efforts saw the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ anti-drug campaign hit its 330th day. Authorities nabbed 50 traffickers, seizing 150 grams of heroin and 376 narcotic pills. The drive has led to 46,443 arrests so far, with eight individuals guided toward de-addiction and rehab.

Punjab’s heightened vigilance underscores a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social elements, drug smuggling, and potential threats. These proactive steps signal robust preparedness for the national festival.
