In a significant development for Punjab’s infrastructure, the Central Government has greenlit the construction of rail overbridges (ROBs) in Doraha and Dhuri. Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu announced the approval on social media platform X, hailing it as a milestone in the state’s growth journey.

These long-awaited projects, stalled for years due to political hurdles, will now move forward swiftly. Bittu emphasized that the ROBs will not only streamline road connectivity but also accelerate economic prosperity in the regions. Local residents had been protesting for ages, demanding relief from chronic traffic snarls caused by level crossings.

The Doraha ROB, in Ludhiana district, carries a price tag of Rs 70 crore. Positioned near level crossing 164A on the Ambala-Ludhiana rail section, it addresses frequent gate closures that lead to massive jams and hours-long delays. Once built, it promises smoother traffic flow, time savings, and fewer accidents.

In Dhuri, Sangrur district, a Rs 54 crore ROB will rise in the Bathinda section’s non-interlevel crossing zone. General Arrangement Drawings have received the nod, paving the way for construction. The town often splits into two during gate closures, with jams lasting 3-4 hours, disrupting schools, markets, and daily life. Over 100,000 people stand to benefit directly.

Totaling Rs 124 crore, these initiatives underscore the Centre’s commitment to fortifying Punjab’s backbone infrastructure. Enhanced traffic will spur trade, transport, and everyday ease, injecting fresh momentum into the state’s economy. Bittu extended heartfelt congratulations to Punjabis, predicting a transformative impact on progress.
