The state of Punjab is grappling with the aftermath of devastating floods and heavy rains, which have led to widespread displacement and destruction. The government is stepping in to offer relief to farmers impacted by this crisis. Manish Sisodia, the AAP leader overseeing Punjab affairs, stated that farmers will be granted permission to clear away the sand that has accumulated in their fields. Speaking to the press, Sisodia said that the primary concern of farmers is the sand that has settled in their fields, hindering the planting of the next crop. He highlighted the financial losses suffered by farmers due to the damage to their crops. The AAP leader explained that farmers have expressed their worries about the upcoming Rabi crop, and the sand accumulation makes it difficult to cultivate the land. Sisodia addressed the need for a decision regarding the existing mining policy, which does not permit unauthorized mining. The state government will introduce a new policy to permit farmers to remove sand from their fields. He assured that the Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, is aware of the farmers’ problems and has decided to allow sand extraction. An official announcement will be made in the coming days. Regarding the Prime Minister’s planned visit to Punjab on September 9th, Sisodia emphasized the need for substantial aid to address the devastation. He noted the discussions between the Chief Minister and central government representatives but underscored the lack of any concrete action from the central government. Sisodia urged the Prime Minister to assess the situation and take action, advocating for the release of 60,000 crore rupees to provide relief to the people of Punjab.
