Bhagwant Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has strongly criticized the central government’s plan to remove ration cards, accusing the BJP of targeting the poor. He declared his government’s commitment to prevent the cancellation of ration cards, disputing the criteria set by the center. According to Mann, the central government’s guidelines exclude beneficiaries with four-wheeled vehicles or more than 2.50 acres of land. He has questioned these standards, asking whether families would be denied rations if a member secures a government job and moves to the city, or if a family member owns a car. Mann stated that his government would not allow the removal of a single ration card. He shared that he has written to the central government, requesting a six-month extension to verify beneficiaries. Mann alleged that the central government is cutting off rations by citing technical reasons and that this action is against social justice and humanity. He considers it a fight for the dignity, rights, and humanity of the poor.
