A couple in Pune stirred up a commotion by distributing 5,000 kg of chicken, just before the local elections. The event, organized by Dhananjay and Pooja Jadhav through their ‘Dhananjay Jadhav Foundation,’ coincided with Gatari, the pre-Shravan day when many households in Maharashtra enjoy non-vegetarian meals. The couple, who are running for office in Ward No. 1, stated their intention to support the community. However, the giveaway’s timing has led many to believe it was a campaign strategy. Thousands of people, used to benefits like free rations, queued up in anticipation. The organized distribution soon became chaotic due to the sheer number of people, leading to the event’s premature conclusion. The incident has ignited a debate in Pune, with some residents accusing the couple of election marketing and others dismissing it as a public relations move.
