Guwahati witnessed a significant visit from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday as she arrived for a two-day tour. Her first stop was the revered Kamakhya Temple, where she sought blessings from the goddess. Sharing a moment on social media platform X, she posted a picture capturing her devotion.
In her post, Priyanka wrote, ‘Paid obeisance at Maa Kamakhya Devi in Assam and sought her blessings for the welfare of Assam and the entire nation. May Maa’s grace remain upon every brother and sister of our Bharat. Jai Maa Kamakhya.’ Draped in the temple’s sacred chunari, adorned with a garland and tilak on her forehead, she was accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Landing at the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar, Priyanka headed straight to the historic temple for prayers. This visit underscores her deep spiritual connection amid her political engagements in the Northeast.
Post-darshan, she proceeded to Rajiv Bhawan, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters. There, she is set to chair crucial meetings focused on candidate selection for the upcoming elections. Senior party leaders emphasize that Priyanka is closely monitoring the process, ensuring a thorough and systematic approach.
This method involves gathering detailed inputs from grassroots workers and district leaders, making it one of the most comprehensive selection drives in recent times. Discussions at Rajiv Bhawan will evaluate potential candidates, review organizational preparedness, and strengthen coordination between state leadership and the All India Congress Committee.
Insiders reveal a strong focus on choosing winnable candidates and addressing local issues effectively. Assam Congress leaders hint at more visits from Priyanka in the coming months to oversee progress, collect political feedback from various regions, and maintain close dialogue between central and state units as the campaign intensifies.
The party aims to finalize selections swiftly. Sources indicate that after consultations with central leadership, the first list of Congress candidates for the Assam Assembly elections could be announced by the end of February, setting the stage for a robust electoral battle.
