New Delhi is set to host a grand celebration on January 25 as the Election Commission of India marks the 16th National Voters’ Day, commemorating the Commission’s establishment in 1950. President Droupadi Murmu will grace the occasion as the chief guest, presiding over the event and delivering a keynote address.
This year’s theme, ‘My India, My Vote,’ with the tagline ‘Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy,’ underscores the vital role of every citizen in strengthening democracy through active participation. The initiative aims to boost voter awareness and turnout nationwide.
Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal will join as a distinguished guest, alongside Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, and Dr. Vivek Joshi. The program promises a blend of tradition and innovation.
In a highlight, President Murmu will hand over Voter ID cards to newly enrolled young voters and present awards for excellence in electoral practices. Categories include technology integration, election management, innovative awareness campaigns, model code of conduct adherence, training programs, special awards, and media contributions.
Two key publications will be unveiled: ‘2025: A Year of Initiatives and Innovations’ and ‘Festival of Elections, Pride of Bihar,’ celebrating successful Bihar assembly polls. A video showcasing ECI’s global leadership in democratic processes will also be screened.
A special exhibition will highlight voter list preparation, election operations, recent initiatives, and Bihar’s electoral success. Across India, state, district, and booth-level officers will organize parallel events, honoring new voters and promoting voting as a festival of democracy.
This annual observance reinforces the Commission’s commitment to inclusive, tech-driven elections, ensuring every eligible citizen’s voice is heard.
