Two young men in Amravati, Maharashtra, committed arson at a Mahavitaran sub-station on Monday, fueled by anger over frequent power cuts. The incident took place at the Walgaon sub-station where the individuals entered the premises around 11:30 AM on June 15th and set fire to tables and chairs using petrol. The youths reportedly confronted the assistant engineer, complaining about the extended power outages plaguing their area. The attack was documented on a mobile phone by an employee, indicating the event was planned. The fire resulted in the destruction of important documents, computers, and files, impacting the sub-station’s services and affecting the power supply to more than six villages. The local police have registered a case against the individuals involved, with charges including assault on a government employee, arson, and damage to government property. The accused are currently on the run. Locals have expressed that power cuts have been a constant problem for weeks, and the administration is urged to take strict action against the offenders.
