New Delhi, February 14 – In a landmark move symbolizing India’s break from colonial legacies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated ‘Seva Tirth’, the new complex for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The final cabinet meeting at the iconic South Block took place yesterday, February 13, 2026, paving the way for this historic transition.

South Block, a relic of British colonial architecture built alongside North Block, has long represented the subjugation of India under imperial rule. Even after independence in 1947, much of the administrative framework clung to these colonial structures. The PMO has operated from South Block for decades, but now, all operations—including cabinet meetings—will shift to Seva Tirth.

During the inauguration, PM Modi emphasized that ‘service is the soul of India’. This state-of-the-art facility now houses the PMO, National Security Council Secretariat, and Cabinet Secretariat under one roof. The integration promises streamlined administration, enhanced efficiency, and a citizen-centric approach. Prominently inscribed on the walls is the motto ‘Citizen is God’, reinforcing the ethos of selfless service.

As part of the ambitious Central Vista redevelopment project, this change aligns with renaming initiatives like Central Secretariat to Kartavya Bhawan and Rajpath to Kartavya Path. These steps aim to dismantle colonial symbols and foster a governance model rooted in Indian values.

Seva Tirth boasts modern amenities, digital infrastructure, and superior coordination mechanisms. Government officials believe this will accelerate national progress, aligning administrative functions with the vision of a developed India by 2047. The shift marks not just a change of address, but a profound reimagining of power structures in tune with public aspirations.
