New Delhi witnessed a solemn moment on Friday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined a prayer assembly at Gandhi Smriti to honor Mahatma Gandhi on his 78th death anniversary. Accompanied by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, PM Modi immersed himself in the commemorative event, paying heartfelt tribute to the Father of the Nation.
The gathering at Gandhi Smriti, the site where Gandhi was assassinated, drew dignitaries and schoolchildren alike. PM Modi was seen engaging warmly with the young students, sharing moments that underscored Gandhi’s enduring legacy in shaping future generations. His presence highlighted the nation’s continued reverence for Bapu’s principles of non-violence and self-reliance.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi took to social media platform X to express his homage. ‘Remembering our beloved Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His emphasis on Swadeshi forms the bedrock of our vision for a developed and self-reliant India,’ he posted. Modi elaborated on Gandhi’s unwavering commitment to ahimsa, quoting sacred verses: ‘Ahimsa paramo dharmah.’ He affirmed that Gandhi’s ideals continue to guide the nation towards justice, harmony, and humanity.
At Raj Ghat, PM Modi laid wreaths and observed silence, recommitting to Gandhi’s timeless values. Meanwhile, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mirrored these sentiments at GPO Park. He offered floral tributes to Gandhi’s statue, followed by bhajans performed by schoolchildren, including the iconic ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram.’ CM Yogi spent nearly 15 minutes listening attentively, praising the performers and posing for photos with them.
These statewide observances reflect a collective national introspection on Gandhi’s role in India’s freedom struggle and his relevance in contemporary times. As India marches towards progress, leaders invoke Bapu’s philosophy to inspire unity and ethical governance. The events serve as a poignant reminder that Gandhi’s light continues to illuminate the path for a stronger, more compassionate nation.
