New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound grief over the passing of Gujarat BJP MLA Govind Parmar, a dedicated public servant known for his unwavering commitment to social causes. In a heartfelt post on X early Saturday, Modi reflected on Parmar’s lifelong dedication.
‘Deeply saddened by the demise of Gujarat MLA Govind Parmar. He was always eager and devoted to social work. Prayers for the departed soul’s peace and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,’ Modi wrote.
Parmar, 82, represented the Umreth constituency in Anand district. He breathed his last in a local hospital on Friday after a prolonged illness. Party leaders noted that he had been receiving treatment in Anand for some time.
Born in 1943 into a modest family, Parmar rose through the ranks as a grassroots leader deeply connected to the rural communities of the Charotar region. With education up to the seventh grade, he devoted his life to public service and politics.
In the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections, Parmar defeated Congress candidate Kapilaben Chavda to secure his first term. He retained the seat in 2022, overcoming NCP’s Jayant Patel, solidifying his position as a key BJP figure in the area.
Gujarat BJP president and MLA Jagdish Vishwakarma also mourned the loss, calling Parmar a popular leader from Umreth. ‘The tragic news of Govindbhai Parmar’s passing has left me heartbroken. I pray for his soul’s peace and strength for his family,’ Vishwakarma stated.
Parmar’s death marks the end of an era for local politics, where his simplicity and service-oriented approach earned him widespread respect. His contributions to social welfare initiatives will be remembered long after his departure. Tributes continue to pour in from across the political spectrum, underscoring his lasting impact.
