In a landmark moment for Indian Railways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train on Monday. This semi-high-speed train promises to revolutionize overnight travel with its world-class amenities and cutting-edge technology.

The train, connecting New Delhi to Dehradun via Saharanpur, was inaugurated amid great fanfare. Spanning 303 kilometers, it will slash travel time significantly, completing the journey in just five hours compared to the current 11 hours on traditional trains. With a top speed of 160 kmph, it’s designed for comfort during night journeys.

Boasting 10 AC-3 Tier coaches along with modern facilities like bio-vacuum toilets, LED lights, and onboard entertainment, the Vande Bharat Sleeper aims to provide hotel-like experience on wheels. Each coach features 72 berths, ensuring ample space for passengers. The train’s indigenous design underscores India’s push towards self-reliance in rail manufacturing.

PM Modi highlighted the train’s role in boosting connectivity and tourism in the region. ‘This Vande Bharat Sleeper is not just a train; it’s a new chapter in comfortable, fast, and safe travel for the common man,’ he said during the launch. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision to modernize railways under the Amrit Bharat scheme.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the train’s energy efficiency and passenger-centric features. Built by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, it incorporates advanced aerodynamics and noise reduction technologies. Trial runs have already demonstrated its reliability and speed.

Passengers can expect seamless booking via the IRCTC app, with fares starting at affordable rates. This launch marks the beginning of a fleet expansion, with more sleeper variants planned for key routes across India. As the nation gears up for enhanced rail infra, the Vande Bharat Sleeper sets a new benchmark in overnight travel.
