Parliament’s Monsoon Session: Opposition Presses for Discussion on Voter Roll Revisions

The Parliament’s monsoon session continued, with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha meeting for the fourth day. Opposition parties have been vocal in their requests for a debate concerning the ongoing revision exercise. Since the start of the session, adjournment motions have been a regular feature. Protests have also been taking place at the Parliament steps, with opposition members arguing that the revision exercise is a tactic to manipulate voter lists and remove votes before the upcoming assembly elections. In Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Tejashwi Yadav and MP Manoj Jha have suggested a potential poll boycott. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, along with Akhilesh Yadav, Kanimozhi, Manickam Tagore, and KC Venugopal, have actively participated in the demonstrations.
