Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has unleashed a sharp critique against the US Navy’s decision to sink an Iranian warship perilously close to Indian territorial waters. In a series of fiery posts on social media platform X, the AIMIM chief demanded immediate clarification from the Indian government on this provocative incident.
The event, which unfolded recently, has raised serious questions about maritime security and India’s strategic sovereignty. Owaisi highlighted the alarming proximity of the American operation to India’s exclusive economic zone, questioning why the Modi government remains silent while a key strategic partner like the US expands its war zone into sensitive regional waters.
‘Did the Trump administration inform India before deploying a nuclear submarine so close to our waters to target an Iranian vessel?’ Owaisi asked pointedly. He emphasized India’s role in the Quad alliance, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability from both Washington and New Delhi.
Owaisi warned that such unchecked actions could set dangerous precedents. ‘If this becomes a model for Chinese naval operations in these waters, will the government stay mute?’ he probed, cautioning against the erosion of India’s long-standing reputation as a strategically sovereign nation.
The parliamentarian didn’t stop there. He criticized the government’s ostrich-like approach, likening it to burying its head in the sand. With two other Iranian ships reportedly in the vicinity, Owaisi urged the government to convene a press conference, unequivocally condemn the US action, and outline a detailed stance on the escalating tensions in the region.
This development comes amid heightened US-Iran hostilities, where American forces have intensified operations against Iranian assets. Owaisi’s intervention brings domestic political heat to an issue with profound implications for India’s foreign policy and national security posture.
As global forums watch closely, the silence from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of External Affairs has fueled concerns over India’s assertiveness in protecting its maritime interests. Owaisi’s call for action resonates with those wary of external powers treating Indian Ocean waters as their playground.
