Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi unleashed a fierce critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, accusing him of ideological bias towards Israel amid escalating tensions in Gaza. Speaking at a gathering after Friday prayers at Masjid-e-Chawk, the AIMIM chief questioned the Prime Minister’s unwavering solidarity with what he termed a ‘genocidal regime’.
Owaisi highlighted the deaths of over 73,000 Palestinians in Gaza, labeling it a massacre. He argued that while condemning Hamas might be warranted, Modi should have unequivocally denounced Israeli actions. ‘India’s open backing of Israel’s policies is not in the nation’s interest,’ he asserted, pointing to the International Criminal Court’s warrant against Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
Drawing historical parallels, Owaisi linked Zionist ideology with the RSS, claiming shared roots in hatred. He recalled meetings in the 1960s between Israeli officials and Jan Sangh representatives, discussing anti-Muslim sentiments, and a 1973 encounter involving Nathuram Godse’s brother seeking support for propaganda.
The MP warned that Modi’s stance is alienating the Global South, potentially damaging India’s standing. He urged isolation of Israel as a matter of justice, emphasizing Palestine’s significance to Muslims as the third holiest site. Owaisi also addressed diversions to Hindu persecution in Bangladesh, advocating resolution by repatriating ousted leader Sheikh Hasina.
Questioning Modi’s silence on potential US strikes on Iran despite anti-war rhetoric towards Russia, Owaisi called for consistent opposition to conflict. His remarks, first posted on X, underscore a deepening divide in India’s foreign policy discourse.
