Srinagar, April 9 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah delivered a sharp critique of US President Donald Trump today, questioning the American leader’s reliability amid escalating tensions in West Asia. Speaking to reporters, Abdullah remarked that Trump might not even know his own next move, highlighting the president’s erratic statements and social media outbursts.
‘Trump says one thing in the morning, something else by afternoon, and a completely different tune by evening,’ Abdullah observed. He stressed that such unpredictability makes it impossible to place faith in the US president’s decisions, especially on critical global issues like the recent conflict involving Iran.
The chief minister pointed out Trump’s inappropriate use of abusive language on social media, which he said is unbecoming of any leader, let alone the president of the United States. ‘He should remember his position before tweeting,’ Abdullah said, noting that ordinary users would face immediate bans for similar conduct.
Delving into the Middle East crisis, Abdullah urged Trump to first clarify why the war was initiated against Iran, emphasizing that Tehran did not start the hostilities. He dismissed US claims of success in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, arguing it was already open before the conflict and that the war has now empowered Iran to impose tolls on passing ships.
With a ceasefire now in place, Abdullah called on America to ensure its longevity, particularly by reining in Israel’s relentless bombings in Lebanon that continue to claim lives. ‘This isn’t about success or failure,’ he said, crediting Pakistan for brokering the truce in a role India couldn’t play due to its close ties with Israel.
Abdullah underscored that the key takeaway is the ceasefire itself, regardless of who mediated it. His comments reflect growing frustration among regional leaders over the volatile US approach to international diplomacy, raising questions about America’s role as a stabilizing force in the region.
