In a major push to tackle escalating traffic woes, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced the development of a comprehensive Planned Route Corridor across the state. This ambitious initiative aims to streamline vehicle movement, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety for millions of commuters.

Speaking at a high-level meeting with transport officials, CM Majhi emphasized the urgent need for structured traffic management amid rapid urbanization and rising vehicle numbers. ‘Odisha is growing at a phenomenal pace, and our roads must keep up,’ he stated. The planned corridor will feature dedicated lanes for different vehicle types, smart signaling systems, and real-time traffic monitoring.

The project, spanning key highways and urban arteries, will integrate advanced technology like AI-driven traffic prediction and drone surveillance. Initial phases target Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Rourkela, where bottlenecks are most acute. Experts hail it as a game-changer, potentially cutting travel times by 30% and accident rates significantly.

Funding will come from state coffers supplemented by central schemes, with public-private partnerships accelerating implementation. CM Majhi assured timely rollout, starting with pilot corridors next quarter. This move aligns with Odisha’s vision of becoming a model state in infrastructure, promising smoother journeys and economic boosts through efficient logistics.
