In the wake of a heartbreaking accident in Noida’s Sector-150, where software engineer Yuvraj Mehta lost his life, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has swung into action. Formed on the directives of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the SIT arrived in Noida on Tuesday to conduct a thorough probe into the incident that has sparked serious allegations of negligence.
The team, led by ADG Meerut Zone Bhanu Bhaskar, wasted no time. They reached the Noida Authority office around 12:15 PM and held a marathon three-hour meeting in the boardroom. Top officials, including Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh, District Magistrate Medha Rupam, and Noida Authority ACEO Krishna Karunesh, faced intense questioning.
Officers from various departments waited outside with files in hand, summoned as needed to provide details. The father’s testimony became a pivotal moment. Rajkumar Mehta, Yuvraj’s grieving father, was called in for a 30-minute session. He recounted the horrific night when he watched helplessly as his son and car plunged into deep water. ‘Around 80 workers were present, but not one jumped in to save him,’ he alleged, providing a detailed timeline that investigators deem crucial.
Post-meeting, the SIT headed to the accident site in Sector-150. They inspected the sharp turn lacking any safety barriers, the water-filled ditch, surrounding roads, and builder-related documents. ADG Bhaskar outlined a three-phase investigation: the first two phases—office deliberations and site inspection—are complete. The third will involve statements from direct and indirect witnesses.
CM Yogi has already taken decisive action, removing Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M and terminating a junior engineer’s services. Bhaskar assured that no one will be spared—be it civic or police authorities. Sources hint at more suspensions looming as statements from police, fire department, and administration officials are recorded in the coming days.
This tragedy underscores glaring lapses in urban infrastructure safety. As the five-day deadline for the SIT report looms, Noida residents await accountability and reforms to prevent future mishaps.
