RANCHI: In a scathing attack, Jharkhand Congress leader Rakesh Sinha has branded Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s abrupt decision to shift to the Rajya Sabha as a blatant insult to the people of Bihar. Speaking exclusively to IANS in Ranchi, Sinha argued that sidelining Kumar so soon after assuming power mocks the mandate given by voters in the 2025 assembly elections.
Bihar’s electorate handed the NDA a resounding majority on the back of Nitish Kumar’s face, expecting him to lead the state for a full five-year term. ‘This sudden exit to the Rajya Sabha is nothing short of trampling on that public verdict,’ Sinha declared. He accused the BJP of orchestrating this move, a tactic long anticipated by the Congress.
‘BJP has mastered the art of disrespecting electoral mandates,’ Sinha quipped, pointing out that voters backed the NDA not for BJP but for Kumar. Now, with Kumar pushed aside, BJP has achieved exactly what it wanted. This, he said, is a clear violation of the people’s will.
Sinha also raised alarms over recent changes in Bihar’s governorship, noting multiple replacements and resignations. ‘Why this flurry of activity? It signals that the central government is plotting something big. People of Bihar need to stay vigilant,’ he warned.
On international fronts, Sinha criticized India’s position after the US granted a 30-day waiver for oil purchases from Russia. ‘India is turning into America’s puppet. A nation like ours must assert its independent stance,’ he asserted.
Kumar himself announced his Rajya Sabha bid on X on Thursday, filing nomination papers in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This development has sparked widespread debate on political loyalties and voter trust in Bihar’s volatile politics.
