In a heart-wrenching incident, a stampede at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday morning claimed the lives of nine devotees and left many more injured. The tragedy occurred as a large congregation of pilgrims gathered for the occasion of Ekadashi, leading to severe overcrowding and a subsequent surge. Authorities confirmed that the immense rush of people at the temple precipitated the fatal stampede. Rescue and medical teams were mobilized without delay, with the injured being admitted to hospitals for immediate care. Enhanced police presence was established to manage the aftermath. A state minister was on-site to coordinate relief efforts and gather information. The Chief Minister’s office assured that all possible assistance would be extended to the families of the deceased and those who sustained injuries. The incident has prompted national condolences.
