The Supreme Court has asked the Indian government to explore informal communication channels to prevent the execution of Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya in Yemen. This comes after the Centre expressed its limited ability to intervene. The court was hearing a petition by the ‘Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council’ which sought diplomatic efforts. The Attorney General outlined the government’s position, pointing out the challenges given Yemen’s situation and the specifics of ‘blood money’ negotiations. The Court acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and requested updates on potential positive developments. The next hearing is scheduled for July 18th.
