Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, erupted in protests on Friday following unconfirmed reports of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s death in a joint Israel-US strike. Supporters worldwide, including in India, expressed outrage, leading to demonstrations that disrupted normal life in the region.

Authorities in Baramulla district swiftly implemented traffic diversions on the vital NH-44 highway to manage crowds gathering at multiple locations. The precautionary measure aims to prevent congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement amid heightened tensions.

Travelers heading from Baramulla to Srinagar are advised to bypass the direct NH-44 route. Instead, take the alternate path via Sangrama, Putkhah, Chura, Hyhama, Rangi, Hamre, Sumbal, and Shalatenag before reaching Srinagar. Though slightly longer, this detour avoids potential bottlenecks caused by protests.

For those journeying from Srinagar to Baramulla, the designated route starts from Srinagar, passing through Shalatenag, Sumbal, Hamre, and Rangi, culminating in Baramulla. Vehicles bound for Tangmarg or Gulmarg from Srinagar must follow Srinagar-Shalatenag-Narbal-Magarm-Kunzar-Tangmarg-Gulmarg.

Traffic police personnel have been deployed at key junctions and diversion points across these routes. They are working in coordination with SDPO Pattan to address any emerging issues promptly. The public is urged to adhere to these guidelines and cooperate with law enforcement.
