A major breakthrough has been made in the Gorakhpur murder case of NEET aspirant Deepak Gupta, with the arrest of key suspect Rahim following a police encounter. The encounter occurred in Mauachapi village, a joint operation by local and Kushinagar police units. Rahim was wounded during the gunfire and is receiving medical attention under police supervision. Gupta’s death triggered violent protests and road blockades, leading to injuries among law enforcement officials. The incident took place around 12:30 AM on Monday in Mauachapi village. Cattle smugglers arrived with three vehicles, prompting a confrontation with villagers, including Gupta. The smugglers abducted Gupta, drove him for an hour, and inflicted fatal injuries before abandoning his body. Police have registered a case and initiated a search operation to apprehend other suspects. A cattle smuggler was apprehended and assaulted by villagers. Authorities have clarified that Gupta’s death was not due to a gunshot wound, contrary to some reports. Protests and clashes have resulted in the deployment of additional police forces. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered strict action, and senior officials have visited the victim’s family to offer their support.
