New Delhi is set to bloom with colors as the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) prepares to inaugurate its highly anticipated Annual Tulip Festival-2026 on Monday at the centrally located Shanti Path Lawns. This vibrant event promises a spectacular display of nature’s finest, drawing crowds of flower enthusiasts and families alike.

Officials revealed that the highlight will be a special Tulip Walk and exhibition kicking off from near the Sudan Embassy in Chanakyapuri. Visitors will stroll through pathways lined with thousands of tulips in every hue imaginable, meticulously cultivated by the horticulture department. The walk is expected to attract a massive turnout, offering a perfect blend of beauty and serenity in the heart of the capital.

Originally slated for February 17, the opening was postponed by a week due to stringent security measures for the India AI Impact Summit 2026. NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal had earlier outlined ambitious plans during the budget presentation last month, announcing the planting of 5.53 lakh tulip bulbs across the city. A significant portion of these bulbs proudly carry the ‘Make in India’ tag, developed locally in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.

Last year marked a milestone when NDMC potted one lakh tulip bulbs for public sale at key spots like Shanti Path Lawns, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, and others. This initiative not only beautified public spaces but also made these blooms accessible to everyday citizens.

Chahal emphasized NDMC’s commitment to sustainability and self-reliance, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a modern, green New Delhi. Ongoing projects include transforming a park near Najaf Khan Road in Lodhi Colony into a Miyawaki forest. The afforestation drive has already planted 3,500 trees, 29.93 lakh shrubs, and 502 bamboo plants.

Looking ahead, NDMC targets 5,100 trees and 4.71 lakh shrubs for 2026-27. Water conservation efforts feature 10 decentralized Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in operation, with plans for 12 more STPs and five waste treatment plants. These steps underscore NDMC’s role as a progressive urban body fostering a sustainable capital.
