Mumbai, February 18: In a stern advisory, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare has issued a warning to those spreading misleading messages about Ajit Pawar using artificial intelligence. Following the tragic demise of the party’s national president and former Deputy Chief Minister, certain elements have begun circulating AI-generated audio and video clips across social media and electronic platforms. These fabricated contents are designed to deceive the public and serve narrow political agendas.

Tatkare’s letter explicitly cautions against believing such content. He emphasized that exploiting a departed leader’s voice and image in this manner is a grave offense deserving severe punishment. The NCP has demanded an immediate halt to the dissemination of these fakes, threatening legal action under cyber laws if the perpetrators do not comply.

While no names were mentioned, the missive appears directed at Rohit Pawar, who has been holding press conferences from Mumbai to Delhi. He has repeatedly used large screens to display AI-generated videos and audios questioning the circumstances of the accident that claimed Ajit Pawar’s life, probing for lapses and shortcomings.

The letter details how these deepfakes misrepresent Ajit Pawar’s voice to spread false and misleading statements. Tatkare described this as a despicable act that tarnishes the legacy of a towering figure in Maharashtra politics. Ajit Pawar, revered as a mass leader, dedicated his life to public service, and posthumously maligning him undermines democratic values and societal harmony.

NCP vows to pursue stringent measures against those responsible. Party workers and supporters have been urged to remain vigilant and report any such content. This development underscores the growing threat of AI misuse in Indian politics, where technology is weaponized to manipulate narratives and erode public trust. As investigations unfold, the political battle lines in Maharashtra seem to sharpen further.
