In a major victory against drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau’s Bengaluru Zonal Unit intercepted a Brazilian national at Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday morning. Acting on precise intelligence, officers seized 4.776 kilograms of cocaine hidden in his luggage, with an estimated street value of Rs 23.88 crore.

The suspect had flown in from Sao Paulo via Doha. A thorough scan of his checked baggage revealed four modified ladies’ handbags featuring fake walls and concealed compartments. Cocaine had been chemically soaked into clothes stuffed inside these cavities—a sophisticated method that evades standard detection.

NCB officials immediately detained the passenger and launched an interrogation. Investigators are probing his role in the syndicate, potential suppliers, intended destinations, and links to broader international networks. Forensic analysis of his phone, documents, and belongings is underway to dismantle the entire operation.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, 1985. The accused will be produced in court soon, with requests for further remand. This bust underscores NCB’s vigilance amid rising cocaine smuggling into India, signaling a robust crackdown on global drug cartels.

The agency urges the public to report suspicious activities via the toll-free MANAS helpline at 1933, assuring complete anonymity. Such tips could unravel more syndicates and safeguard communities from narcotics’ devastating impact.
