New Delhi witnessed a significant political development as Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarek Rahman was sworn in as Prime Minister on Tuesday. President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath, marking a new chapter for the nation amid recent turbulence.
BJP senior leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi extended his hopes for the fresh administration. In an exclusive conversation, he emphasized that the new government must chart a positive course forward. ‘I hope Bangladesh’s new leadership learns from recent events, especially the unfortunate incidents targeting minorities, and steers towards progress,’ Naqvi stated firmly.
Reflecting on the interim government’s chief, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, Naqvi criticized certain statements as detrimental. ‘Such rhetoric serves neither Bangladesh nor its people. Those indulging in it cannot claim to be true well-wishers of the country,’ he remarked.
Naqvi also addressed the controversy surrounding ‘Vande Mataram,’ slamming opponents as echoing the divisive mindset of the Muslim League from independence days. ‘This national song embodies the spirit of 140 crore Indians—it’s not religious, but patriotic. Attempts to communalize it won’t succeed, just as partition’s toxic legacy cannot repeat,’ he asserted passionately.
On Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s remarks, Naqvi quipped that the party is struggling to hold ground domestically while trying to stir national discourse, only to face backlash. Turning to brighter prospects, he hailed India’s AI ambitions. ‘India will emerge as an AI powerhouse, embracing global tech for national good. The opposition’s negativity blinds them; they should learn from the AI Summit instead of dismissing it,’ Naqvi concluded optimistically.
