In a swift response to the devastating gas leak in Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema region, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas on Wednesday. The incident has left vast coconut plantations in ruins, prompting immediate directives for compensation from the state leader.

The gas leakage, reported from industrial operations nearby, spread toxic fumes across fertile farmlands, severely damaging thousands of coconut trees. Farmers in the delta district are reeling from the losses, with estimates suggesting damages running into crores. Naidu, visibly concerned during the helicopter tour, instructed officials to assess the full extent of destruction and expedite relief measures.

‘Our farmers are the backbone of the economy. We cannot let them suffer due to industrial mishaps,’ Naidu stated post-survey. He emphasized quick payouts to help growers replant and recover. District collectors have been tasked with preparing detailed reports within 48 hours, ensuring no eligible farmer is left out.

This aerial inspection underscores the government’s commitment to agricultural heartlands like Konaseema, known for its lush coconut groves. Local leaders welcomed the move, urging inclusion of other crop losses in the compensation package. As teams fan out for ground verification, hope rises among affected communities for timely aid.

Naidu’s proactive step comes amid rising concerns over industrial safety in coastal Andhra. Environmental groups have called for stricter regulations, while the state promises a thorough probe into the leak’s cause. For now, the focus remains on supporting those whose livelihoods hang by a thread after this calamity.
