Mumbai police are searching for a pregnant Bangladeshi woman who escaped from J.J. Hospital. The woman, who was admitted to the hospital due to health issues, fled on August 14th. She had been arrested for residing in India illegally and was under police supervision. The woman escaped after pushing past a constable. Her escape has led to increased concerns regarding security in medical facilities and detention centers. The woman, identified as Rubina Irshad Sheikh, is five months pregnant and was using a fake birth certificate. She was arrested on August 5th in Navi Mumbai. After her arrest, she was kept in Byculla Women’s Jail, but was brought to the hospital for skin treatment. The police have registered a case and are trying to find her. This incident follows a series of nationwide actions against individuals living in the country without proper documentation, a move that has drawn criticism from political opponents.
