In a shocking incident in Mumbai’s Goregaon area, two people suffered injuries when hydrogen-filled balloons exploded inside a residential society lift, igniting a brief fire. The entire dramatic sequence was captured on CCTV footage that has since gone viral on social media platforms.

The mishap occurred at Anmol Tower, where a man attempted to transport a bunch of balloons inflated with hydrogen gas via the elevator. A woman was already inside the lift, and another man joined them shortly after. As the automatic doors began to close, all the balloons burst simultaneously, triggering a sudden blaze.

Panic ensued as the three occupants scrambled out just in time. The fire extinguished quickly, but not before leaving two victims with burns. Miraculously, none of the injuries were life-threatening, and all three escaped serious harm.

The footage reveals the trio’s frantic dash from the lift amid the chaos. Experts warn that hydrogen, being highly flammable, poses extreme risks in confined spaces like elevators, where even a small spark can lead to devastating explosions.

Mumbai Police have registered a case against the man responsible and launched an investigation. While it’s unclear if the balloons contained hydrogen or another gas—helium being non-flammable—the incident underscores the dangers of mishandling such items.

Social media users are abuzz with the video, urging greater caution with gas-filled balloons, especially around children and in enclosed areas. This event serves as a stark reminder for building safety protocols and public awareness on hazardous materials.
