Bhopal’s legislative assembly witnessed a significant financial boost on Tuesday as the Madhya Pradesh government tabled the third supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, allocating a substantial ₹19,287.32 crore to address emerging needs and fortify key sectors.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Jagdish Devda presented the estimates, breaking down the provisions into ₹8,934.03 crore for revenue expenditure and ₹10,353.29 crore for capital outlay. This move underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable development amid evolving economic demands.
A major chunk of ₹4,700 crore has been earmarked for the Narmada Valley Development Department, targeting various irrigation schemes and projects. This allocation highlights the priority on enhancing agricultural infrastructure and ensuring long-term water security for farmers across the state.
The energy sector receives ₹2,630 crore to support state power companies through short-term loans, aimed at guaranteeing uninterrupted electricity supply and operational stability. In urban development, grants totaling ₹1,569 crore are provided to local bodies based on the 15th Finance Commission’s recommendations, with additional ₹248 crore for cities with populations exceeding 10 lakh and ₹370 crore in short-term loans for departmental institutions.
Public Works Department benefits from ₹1,337 crore for land acquisition compensation, rural roads, and district roads, plus ₹225 crore for bridge construction and upgrades, and ₹125 crore specifically for major bridges. Social welfare sees ₹615 crore for the Mukhya Mantri Jan Kalyan Sambal Scheme to aid vulnerable sections.
Education and skill development get a push with ₹600 crore for the Mukhya Mantri Medhavi Vidyarthi Scheme and ₹120 crore for the Shiksha Sahayak Scheme under technical education. Industrial growth is targeted with ₹1,250 crore for the Investment Promotion Scheme to attract industries and spur economic expansion.
Other notable provisions include ₹1,650 crore for managing old and new market loans under the Finance Department, ₹1,388 crore for transfers between various funds via Commercial Tax, ₹321 crore and ₹140 crore respectively for District Mining Fund and Mineral Surcharge Transfer Scheme under Minerals Department, ₹300 crore each for dam-related works and Water Resources, and ₹300 crore for Jal Jeevan Mission and National Water Resources Mission under Public Health Engineering.
This supplementary budget reflects a balanced approach, blending immediate relief with long-term infrastructure investments, positioning Madhya Pradesh for robust growth in the coming year.
