The monsoon season has brought with it a tale of extremes across India. While some areas face the wrath of heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, others are reeling under drought-like conditions. Punjab is experiencing a particularly severe situation, with the 1988 flood record surpassed. The state has seen 37 fatalities, with 1655 villages submerged and over 3.5 lakh people affected.
Continuous heavy rainfall has led to widespread devastation across India, especially in the northern states. Landslides, waterlogging in urban and rural areas, and disrupted infrastructure have resulted in fatalities and displacement. In Uttarakhand, approximately 79 deaths have been recorded due to natural calamities, with 95 people still missing.
Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are also grappling with the effects of the heavy rainfall, including flooding in the Yamuna River and inundation of several cities.
