New Delhi erupted in political fervor as Prime Minister Narendra Modi unleashed a blistering attack on the Congress party during his response to the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Accusing the opposition of betrayal at every turn, Modi didn’t hold back, particularly when it came to the plight of India’s farmers.
He highlighted the struggles of small farmers, noting that over 10 crore tillers own less than two hectares of land. ‘Congress never cared for them,’ Modi asserted, contrasting it with his government’s PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, which has transferred a staggering Rs 4 lakh crore directly into their accounts in a short span.
Modi’s rhetoric sharpened as he mocked Congress’s governance style: ‘Delay, stall, mislead.’ He recounted how Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel envisioned a dam on the Narmada River even before Modi’s birth. Nehru laid the foundation stone, but it took Modi’s premiership to finally inaugurate it. ‘That’s Congress for you,’ he quipped.
The Prime Minister painted a vivid picture of his vision for a developed India against Congress’s alleged destructive agenda. ‘We’re laying the foundation for Viksit Bharat, while Congress digs graves. What kind of love shop is this that talks of digging graves for citizens? Isn’t this an insult to the Constitution?’
Modi praised his administration’s execution prowess, citing the Bogibeel Bridge connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh—a project stalled for decades until his Pragramati initiative fast-tracked it, bringing immense benefits to the Northeast.
In a rallying cry, Modi emphasized faith in India’s 140 crore people as the ultimate solution to challenges. ‘Congress sees citizens as problems; we see them as solutions,’ he declared, underscoring a profound ideological divide as the session drew to a close.
