Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged a concerted and principle-based fight against terrorism during the IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) summit, emphasizing the complete absence of tolerance for any form of double standards. He put forth a proposal to institutionalize the National Security Advisor (NSA) level dialogues among the three nations to bolster security cooperation. Modi critically assessed global governance structures, remarking that institutions like the UN Security Council fail to reflect the current global landscape, as evidenced by the non-permanent status of IBSA member states. He declared that reforming these institutions is an indispensable requirement for global relevance. On the technological front, Modi highlighted the importance of harnessing technology for human-centric development and proposed the creation of an ‘IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance.’ This alliance would focus on sharing digital public infrastructure, including payment systems like UPI, health platforms, and cybersecurity frameworks, with the aim of democratizing technology and fostering inclusive growth, particularly for the Global South. He also suggested working towards shared norms for safe and responsible Artificial Intelligence, with potential discussions at India’s upcoming AI Impact Summit. Modi described IBSA as a significant bloc representing three continents, major democracies, and economies, bound by shared values and aspirations.
