In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Mizoram Police have confiscated methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 24.57 lakh from smugglers operating in the state’s border regions. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizure, marking a significant win for law enforcement in the Northeast.

The operation unfolded late last night when a vigilant police team from the Special Narcotics Cell intercepted a suspicious vehicle near the Aizawl outskirts. A thorough search revealed 2,457 grams of the highly addictive substance concealed in secret compartments. The street value of the contraband was estimated at Rs 24.57 lakh, underscoring the lucrative nature of the illegal trade.

Preliminary investigations suggest the trio was part of a larger syndicate sourcing the drugs from neighboring Myanmar and distributing them across India. Mizoram’s porous borders with Myanmar have long been a hotspot for narcotics smuggling, with methamphetamine flooding local markets and spilling over to other states.

Authorities revealed that the arrested suspects, identified as local residents aged between 25 and 35, confessed to multiple prior shipments. Enhanced questioning is underway to dismantle the entire network. The state government has ramped up surveillance along international borders, deploying additional forces and advanced surveillance tech.

This seizure comes amid rising concerns over youth addiction in Mizoram, where meth abuse has surged dramatically in recent years. Community leaders and NGOs have urged stricter measures, including rehabilitation programs. Police assure continued crackdowns to safeguard the youth and curb organized crime.
