An Indian Army soldier, Kapil Singh, was assaulted at the Bhuni toll plaza in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, leading to the arrest of six individuals. The incident took place on Monday as the 26-year-old jawan was traveling to Delhi Airport with his cousin before returning to his duty in Srinagar. Videos of the attack, which circulated on social media, show the toll employees beating Singh after he was tied to a pole. Kapil Singh’s father, Krishan Pal, has appealed for justice, describing how his son was attacked and how his army identification was taken before the assault. Kapil Singh’s brother, Pradeep, stated that his brother was beaten by 10-12 people with rods after his ID was snatched and he was tied up. The event has led to protests from villagers who vandalized property at the toll plaza and blocked roads. Police officials have stated that more arrests are expected. The Indian Army has issued a strong condemnation of the assault, working with the Uttar Pradesh Police and assuring that the guilty will be held accountable. The Army has also formally protested to NHAI about the incident and will see the case through to its conclusion.
