A stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday caused widespread devastation, resulting in the death of at least 39 people and leaving many injured. Witnesses recounted the overwhelming number of attendees, far exceeding expectations, as a key factor in the disaster. Nand Kumar explained that it was difficult to pinpoint who was at fault. The incident unfolded during Vijay’s speech at the rally, held in Velusamypuram. According to survivors, they screamed for help, but no one could assist. People fell over each other, struggling to breathe. A woman from Namakkal, P. Shivashankari, witnessed her neighbor fall amidst the crowd, highlighting the severity of the situation.
