Margaret Alva vs Jagdeep Dhankhar: Polling to elect subsequent Vice-President starts; PM Modi casts vote

NEW DELHI: Polling to elect the following Vice President of India started at 10 am, with Top Minister Narendra Modi being a few of the first ones to forged vote.

The polling will proceed until 5 pm, following which the counting of ballots will happen.

Nationwide Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee and previous West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar (71) is pitted towards joint Opposition candidate Margaret Alva (80).

With the ruling BJP having an absolute majority within the Lok Sabha and 91 contributors within the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar has a transparent edge over his rival.

He’s more likely to be triumphant incumbent M Venkaiah Naidu, whose tenure ends on August 10.

All MPs of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, together with nominated contributors, are entitled to vote within the vice presidential election.

The 2 Properties of Parliament in combination have a sanctioned power of 788 MPs, of which there are 8 vacancies within the Higher Space.

Therefore, 780 MPs are eligible to forged their poll on this election.
