New Delhi buzzed with political heat as RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha unleashed a scathing critique of the government’s handling of activist Sonam Wangchuk’s detention. Speaking exclusively to IANS, Jha didn’t mince words, pointing out that Wangchuk’s release after six months in jail under a fabricated case exposes deeper flaws in the system.
“The real issue isn’t just his release,” Jha asserted. “It’s that they slapped a bogus National Security Act (NSA) charge on him, only to withdraw it now. Who will return those six precious months of his life?” His questions cut straight to the heart of accountability, highlighting how innocent citizens are often ensnared by draconian laws without recourse.
Jha drew broader parallels, lamenting instances where people languish in prison for years before proving their innocence. “Where’s the mechanism to compensate for lost time?” he demanded, urging reforms to prevent such miscarriages of justice.
Shifting gears, Jha praised Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks, elevating certain leaders above partisan lines. “Figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Kanshiram transcend party politics,” he said. “Their ideas shape the nation’s social fabric, belonging to all Indians, not any single party.”
The MP’s concerns extended to a horrific crime in Bihar’s Saran district, where a 10th-grade girl was gang-raped and murdered. Jha accused the state government of cover-up attempts, similar to past NEET paper leak scandals. “Such incidents breed fear and insecurity,” he warned. “If ‘good governance’ can’t protect our daughters, what does it even mean?”
As public outrage grows, Jha’s pointed questions demand answers from those in power, underscoring the urgent need for justice and transparency in India’s democratic machinery.
