MUMBAI – A routine evening commute turned deadly at Mumbai’s bustling Malad railway station on Saturday night. What started as a minor altercation between passengers escalated into a brutal knife attack, claiming the life of Alok Kumar Singh, a college mathematics teacher and son of a security personnel attached to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The incident unfolded around 9-10 PM on Platform 1. Singh, traveling from Ville Parle to Malad on a local train, stepped off the train when a trivial dispute with two fellow passengers quickly spiraled out of control. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as one assailant pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Singh in the stomach. Blood-soaked and in critical condition, he was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Railway police swiftly responded, securing the area and reviewing CCTV footage from the station. Their investigation led to the arrest of one suspect, Onkar Shinde, 27, from Malad East, apprehended late night in Vasai through a joint operation with Mumbai Police’s GRP. Interrogations are ongoing, with police hunting for additional accomplices.
