The Border Security Force (BSF) has thwarted a significant gold smuggling attempt in West Bengal, arresting one person and seizing 20 gold biscuits valued at an impressive Rs 2.82 crore. The interception took place on the international border between India and Bangladesh, close to the Horandipur Border Outpost.

Intelligence received by the 32 Battalion of the South Bengal Frontier proved crucial. The information pointed towards an individual from a nearby village planning to transport illegal gold, believed to have come from Bangladesh, through the Horandipur BOP area. This intelligence was acted upon on the night of October 11.

BSF personnel were immediately placed on high alert, and a well-planned ambush was set up. Early on October 12, at approximately 6 a.m., vigilant troops observed an individual exhibiting suspicious behavior while navigating through dense bamboo bushes. The suspect was promptly apprehended.

Upon investigation, a packet was discovered containing 20 gold biscuits, with a total weight of 2332.66 grams. The smuggler, along with the seized gold, has been handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings and further inquiry into the smuggling network.
