CHANDIGARH: In a scathing attack on the Punjab government’s law and order management, Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia has highlighted a shocking contrast in the state’s security priorities. While two policemen were brutally gunned down near the India-Pakistan border in Gurdaspur district, the Punjab Police allegedly deployed personnel to guard a pre-wedding shoot for a local market committee chairman.
Majithia took to social media platform X to voice his outrage, pointing out the failure to identify the perpetrators behind the border post attack. The incident occurred late Saturday night at the Adian police checkpost, just 1.5 km from the international border under Dorangla police station. Victims included Home Guard jawan Ashok Kumar from Akhlaspur and ASI Gurnam Singh from Gadarian.
Despite the gravity of losing lives on the frontier, Majithia accused authorities of gross negligence. ‘Ensuring the safety of border troops is the government’s primary duty, yet this tragedy exposes deep lapses,’ he stated. Meanwhile, reports emerged of police presence at Engineer Manik Mehta’s pre-wedding event in Batala, raising eyebrows about misplaced priorities.
‘Is this the state of security in Punjab, where cops are pulled from duty for private celebrations instead of protecting their comrades?’ Majithia questioned, demanding suspensions for those involved. He criticized the Aam Aadmi Party leadership, asking if elite pre-wedding bashes trump soldier safety.
This unprecedented misuse of police resources underscores a broader breakdown in Punjab’s security apparatus. As political tensions rise ahead of elections, Majithia’s call for accountability resonates with many questioning the AAP regime’s competence. The government must respond swiftly to restore public faith in its protective mandate.
