Mumbai’s political landscape heated up on the eve of the budget session as Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde firmly assured the continuity of the state’s flagship Ladki Bahin Yojana. Addressing a press conference after the traditional tea meeting and cabinet deliberations, Shinde dismissed opposition concerns, announcing that the 2026-27 state budget will be tabled on March 6 in the assembly.

The Ladki Bahin Yojana, a cornerstone welfare initiative, provides eligible women with Rs 1,500 monthly financial aid. Shinde highlighted its pivotal role in women’s empowerment, vowing its uninterrupted run despite political rhetoric.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis echoed the sentiment, confirming he will present the budget. He revealed a Rs 20,000 crore boost in central funds to Maharashtra, crediting former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s past contributions to fiscal planning.

Shinde lambasted the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi for boycotting the pre-session tea meet, accusing them of prioritizing protests over legislative duties. Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar also praised Ajit Pawar’s budget presentation legacy.

As the budget session kicks off February 23 and runs till March 25, 2026, expectations run high for measures addressing citizen needs and fueling economic growth. The government remains steadfast in its welfare and development agenda.
