Rain in MP: Gates of Bhimgarh dam in Madhya Pradesh opened for the third time in 6 days, administration on alert

The gate has been opened twice before

Earlier, the gates of Bhimgarh dam have been opened twice, which were closed again after the situation became normal. Collector Dr. Girish Kumar Mishra has instructed the departments related to the Vanganga river area to remain alert. However, till the time of writing the news, flood-like situation has not arisen in the villages situated on the banks of the river, but considering the weather department’s forecast of heavy rain in the district, the possibility of flood situation cannot be ruled out.

Instructions to officers to remain alert

A week ago, the administration had helped the people through relief work and rescue operations. Seeing the possibility of such a situation arising again after six days, the collector has instructed SDERF, Patwari, Tehsildars etc. to remain alert and take stock of the situation in their respective areas.

20 thousand cubic feet of water released per second

According to the information, three gates of Bhimgarh Dam were opened on Saturday. 20 thousand cubic feet of water per second was released from these gates which were opened at 2 pm. It was told that earlier these gates were to be opened at 6 pm on Saturday evening, but in view of the rising water level in the dam, the gates were opened before time. After this, an increase in the water level of the Wainganga river which had already decreased was also seen. Let us tell you that every year during the rainy season, the gates of Bhimgarh Dam are opened due to the rising water level, which directly affects more than two hundred villages situated on the banks of Wainganga river flowing through Balaghat district.

Here, there is a possibility of heavy rain today, concern has increased

The possibility of heavy rain expressed by the Meteorological Department has also worried the administration. According to the forecast received by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra from the Bhopal Regional Office of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of very heavy rain in the district today, Sunday and on Wednesday, 31 July.

Advisory issued for farmers

The Agriculture Department has also issued an advisory for farmers in view of the heavy rains. In view of the possibility of lightning, farmers have been advised not to go to the fields, under trees, hilly areas, near rocks. They have been asked to avoid standing in rain and stagnant water, and to stay away from high tension electricity wires and towers. They have been advised to be cautious while grazing cattle in the open.

When were the dam gates opened?

On July 22, for the first time, five gates were opened. On July 23, two gates were opened. Then 70 thousand cubic feet of water per second was released from all the seven gates. On July 27, again 20 thousand cubic feet of water per second was released from three gates. Six days ago, 327 members of 79 families were affected.

Rescue teams were asked to be on standby

In view of the opening of the gates of Bhimgarh Dam and the spell of rain in the district, the rescue team has already been instructed to be ready. SDERF and other rescue teams are already stationed in the submerged or flood affected areas. Patwari, Tehsildar etc. have also been asked to remain alert in their respective areas. Rescue teams are deployed with safety equipment.
