Fulfilled the duty of the village head: When the labourers were not available, the Sarpanch along with the Panchs built a culvert, set an example of unity

Neeraj Kakotiya, Balaghat. In the Gram Panchayat Naitra, 6 km away from the Balaghat headquarters of Madhya Pradesh, due to non-availability of sufficient labourers, the Sarpanch Santosh Lilhare, along with his Panch colleagues, volunteered as labourers in the construction of a culvert. The construction of this extremely important culvert had to be done on time during the rainy season. Due to non-availability of labourers due to being busy in agricultural work, the Sarpanch and Panchs, along with some labourers, worked as labourers. This jugalbandhi of the Sarpanch and Panchs is being widely discussed among the villagers.

Dozens of farmers in Gram Panchayat Naitra Ward No. 2 under Balaghat District Panchayat area had to cross the drain on a temporary wooden bridge during rains to go to their fields and homes. A concrete culvert was to be constructed over this drain, but due to the rainy season and the start of agricultural work, laborers were not available. The culvert construction work had to be completed within a week. In such a situation, the village Sarpanch Santosh Lilhare along with his fellow Panchs and farmers started working with sand and gravel like laborers by holding a shovel and a bucket. This labor donation of the Sarpanch and Panch for four-five days in the culvert construction work has become a topic of discussion among the villagers.

After the construction of the culvert, the rural farmers are very happy with the Panch-Sarpanch working as labourers as the traffic has become easier. In this case, Naitra Sarpanch Santosh Lilhare said that due to the challenge of building the bridge on time and not getting labourers, he had to work as labourers in the rain along with the Panchs so that the villagers could get the facility of culvert from the government scheme.

Be it agriculture or construction work, the problem of labourers has been seen a lot in the last few years. Due to lack of labourers, government and non-government construction works are now being done by machines. But in village Naitra, the courage and enthusiasm of the Panch and Sarpanch in the construction of a culvert for the convenience of rural farmers is also being seen as an example.
